Vitreous mosaic glass tiles are versatile, durable, and visually appealing. They add colour and texture to architectural and interior design projects.
These small square tiles are made of high-density, low-porosity glass, making them resistant to water and staining.
They come in a wide range of colours and textures and are suitable for indoor, outdoor, and wet areas.
Vitreous glass tiles are popular for various projects, including school and public art. They have a consistent surface and can be used for pool, spa, murals, signage, and tabletops.
Shaping the tiles is easy with the right tools, and they can be mixed with other tesserae for unique surfaces. Some tiles have a ribbed or groove-backed surface, bevelled edges, or a pitted or iridescent finish.
Translucent tiles require the appropriate adhesive choice. Thinset is recommended for stained glass and translucent tiles to enhance colour vibrancy. Weldbond and Prep glue dry clear. White thinset is suggested for gluing translucent tiles to fibreglass mesh to avoid pattern or substrate visibility.
Tiles may be received loose, mesh-backed, or glued face-down on brown paper. Soaking the paper in water removes it, and dishwashing liquid or white vinegar can remove glue residue. Mesh-backed tiles can be pulled off or soaked before removal.
After grouting, a vinegar and water solution with a nail brush can remove grout from grainy tile surfaces.
Colour consistency may vary, so ordering sufficient tiles from the same production run is important.
It is advisable to make test samplers before gluing tiles to the main project to identify any issues and ensure a high-quality result.
